Toronto Blue Jays crush Detroit Tigers 13-8 – MLB Spring Training
Toronto Blue Jays took their revenge as they crushed Detroit Tigers 13-8 at the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida in a Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
The Tigers had defeated the Blue Jays in their previous spring game at the Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. Drew Smyly was the star of the show on Monday night as he helped the Tigers prevail in a high scoring game. In a post game interview, Blue Jays’
Manager John Farrell had aimed to bounce back strongly and that is exactly what the Blue Jays did on Tuesday, April 3.
The win will be of great importance for the Blue Jays who have emerged as the premium force in the American League Division of MLB this season. Executing their game plan to perfection, the Blue Jays have now an astonishing 24-7 win-loss spring record. If
the Blue Jays can continue their excellent form, they can give tough time to other top AL teams during the regular season.
Detroit’s first baseman Prince Fielder made useful contribution with the bat but the Tigers lost to the Blue Jays 13-8 in a thrilling contest. The former Milwaukee Brewers’ striker stole the base off Toronto’s pitcher Henderson Alvarez.
"I think any time I steal anything, everybody's off-guard. That's the point. I just wanted to try it. There was no deep thinking involved," Fielder said. He further added that he is expected to have one steal each year to keep himself in shape.
"I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I don't think you'll see it very much," Tigers Manager Jim Leyland said. "You can tell Rickey Henderson not to worry about it."
Tigers’ starter Max Scherzer looked a bit out of sorts as he allowed nine runs on 11 hits and three walks in just over four innings.
"He was out of synch all day long, just not in a good rhythm all day," Leyland said. "It happens once in a while.
Eric Thames and two other minor league hitters hit home runs for Toronto. Kyle Drabek had a decent time on the mound, giving up five runs over four innings pitched.
