Toronto Blue Jays crush New York Yankees 4-1 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays beat New York Yankees 4-1 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday, May 17 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Blue Jays adopted an aggressive approach in a game that was dominated by the pitchers. With their win against the Yankees, the Blue Jays also improved their record to 21-18.
Robinson Cano provided the Yankees with an excellent start as he doubled to deep left centre in the first inning to score the first run. New York, who has given considerable results this season, was expected to put up a brave fight in the finale to level
the series.
However, that did not turn out to be the case and Toronto displayed some high quality baseball skills in closing stages of the game to earn a rare series sweep against their American League rivals.
Jose Bautista homered to left in the third to give the Blue Jays 2-1 lead and then J.P. Arencibia added a two run home run in the seventh to help Toronto establish complete control over the contest. It will be interesting to see if John Farrell and company
can give similar performances in their next series against New York Mets.
"Offenses are going to go through that," Mark Teixeira said. "I've got to tell you, it's no fun when you're going through it. The guys don't look like they're having a lot of fun. But they're doing their work and they're preparing and it'll change."
"If going deep five times in seven games isn't locked in then we're in for a real treat if he's yet to click in," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said in a post game interview.
Blue Jays made a great start to their 2012 regular season campaign and although they lost their way a bit in the first half of this month, they have bounced back strongly over the last week. In some ways, Blue Jays’ win over the Yankees can be of great significance
as it can provide the team with much needed confidence and self belief.
