Toronto Blue Jays defeat Boston Red Sox, 9-3: MLB Update
The batters and pitchers of the Toronto Blue Jays played superbly which resulted in their Club’s 9-3-victory against the Boston Red Sox at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on May 11.
Kevin Youkilis started the first inning by hitting an RBI shot off the right-centre field to complete a run and give the Red Sox an initial 1-0 lead. Youkilis expressed his feelings as, “Go and enjoy yourself, have fun and live life a little bit because
we've only got one off day this whole month. You might as well live it up.”
No score was added in the second inning from both sides. The Blue Jays’ batters got off the mark in the third inning when they clinched a 2-1 lead. Aaron Hill made a run-scoring single with a groundout while Corey Patterson also completed one run.
The Jays extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning when John McDonald hit a one-run homer and Rajai Davis posted one run to steal second base on the sacrifice fly of Yunel Escobar. Escobar bounced back strongly because he missed the last game due to
left ankle injury.
McDonald was impressive with his bat as he went 2-for-4 with triple RBIs while Davis had a game-winning performance as he hit two RBIs and went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases. Davis raised his hitting average to .240. It was considered as his career-high
hits in a single game. The Blue Jays’ Manager, John Farrell, said of Davis, “It's just good to see him with the confidence he has currently, the way he's swinging the bat. He's hitting fastballs and breaking balls alike.”
The Jays’ pitchers threw the ball pretty well and restricted the score of the rivals till fifth inning. Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz both hit one home run to cut-off their deficit to 4-3 at the end of sixth inning. David Cooper walked on the loaded bases,
McDonald completed two-run double and Davis drove a shot for a two-run single against the Red Sox’ reliever Tim Wakefield in the seventh inning to take a 9-3 lead. The last two innings passed away score-less.
The Red Sox’ starter, John Lackey, was too much expensive as he permitted nine runs on nine hits with nine earned runs in 6 2/3 inning pitches. He struck-out only one batter and gave five walks.
