Toronto Blue Jays defeat Kansas City Royals 4-3 – MLB Update
Brett Lawrie hit a home-run to break the tie in the seventh inning on Wednesday, August 24 to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 at Rogers Field.
The win also brought the Blue Jays back in the three-game series as it stands tied 1-1 now.
The Royals could not capitalise on the gains that they had initially made. Billy Butler, the designated hitter, was also disappointed, acknowledging the fact that with a tougher game, they could overcome the Blue Jays, but luck played an important role in
what eventually transpired.
"We put three runs up on one of the best lefties in the game," Butler said. "You can't really say we didn't try to capitalize on his mistakes. That's just how it is. Even when he's off you're only going to get three and when he's on you're going to get none."
Toronto Blue Jays’ starter was obviously disappointed. While he tried to produce something different, his every attempt proved to be futile as the Royals’ hitters shone. "They hit everything I left over the plate," Romero said. "Those mistake pitches, they
didn't miss them."
Eric Hosmer was the first to score at the top of the first inning on Wednesday when the game kicked off. Ricky Romero was subject to hit that brought the Kansas City Royals an early 1-0 lead. It was Luke Hochevar who, pitching the first, kept the Royals
up in the game.
Billy Butler had a hit in the third to double the lead for the Kansas City Royals while the Blue Jays looked desperately for an opportune moment to open their account. Their hectic effort produced results in the fourth inning.
Jose Bautista homered his 37th of the season, while Brett Lawrie scored a one-run triple to give the Toronto Blue Jays a safe 3-2 lead by the end of the fourth inning.
But Alex Gordon homered in the very next inning to level the score, putting the Royals in the game once again. The game remained tied as it entered into the seventh where relievers’ Jesse Litsch and Louis Coleman pitched for their respective teams.
Brett Lawrie homered to left to make it 4-3 for the Blue Jays against the struggling Coleman. That effectively put the Toronto Blue Jays in a relatively comfortable position, allowing the rest of the relievers to build up pressure on the Kansas City Royals’
offence.
Casey Janssen successfully pitched a shut-out eighth while Frank Francisco came to pitch the ninth. The closer, thanks to the variation in his fastballs, pounded the Kansas City Royals offence and packed the game with a decent 4-3 victory for the Toronto
Blue Jays.
