Toronto Blue Jays defeat New York Yankees 7-1 for back-to-back win – MLB Recap
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 7-1 to take second straight win in the four game series at the Roger Center in Toronto on Friday, July 15.
The Canadian based club showed an excellent game from both sides of the field, as they splashed seven runs and their starter did not allow more than one run. The Blue Jays scored one run in the first, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and the final run
in the eighth inning.
Yunel Escobar led off the game with his RBI single in the bottom of the first then Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Molina each scored an RBI single in the bottom of fourth inning. Aaron Hill, Travis Snider and Corey Patterson combined to add three more runs and
take the game to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Escobar made his second run of the game to cement his club their 47th win of the season.
On the other hand, their starter Brandon Morrow allowed only one run in the top of the second inning and struck-out six batters in just over six innings to snatch his sixth win of the season. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed only two walks in his winning
game to improve his record to 6-4 with a 4.37 ERA in 16 starts.
He received full support from relievers, as Octavio Dotel, Marc Rzepczynski and closer Jason Frasor each held the Yankees strong batting line-up, which includes Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano.
Erick Nunez was the only batter to score for the Yankees, but he did not receive any support from his fellow batters. Like their batters, the Yankees’ starter also pitched a little loose, allowing six runs on seven hits and walking four batters over his
five innings. It was his first loss since June 11 and it was his seventh win for the Garcia in 16 starts of 17 games.
However, reliever Cory Wade managed to stop the Blue Jays swinging their bats and did not allow any run, striking-out four batters over two innings while Sergio Mitre allowed one run on two hits over one inning.
The Yankees second consecutive loss created debate in the talks of the experts and their manager Joe Girardi will definitely be thinking of creating some change in rotation.
