Toronto Blue Jays defeat Texas Rangers 7-3 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays put in a tremendous performance as they stopped the winning march of Texas Rangers and beat them 7-3 on Sunday, July 31 at Rogers Centre.
Rangers who had won the previous two games were tipped to sweep the series but failed to attain their goal.
It was C. J. Wilson, the Rangers’ starter, whose surprising inability to contain the Blue Jays’ offence proved costly for the team. "When you're not able to throw the ball where you want to, it's just an unsettling feeling," Wilson said. "It's kind of frustrating."
Compared to Wilson’s disappointing performance, Blue Jays’ starter Brandon Morrow won the three of last four games he has played. This obviously put question on how best could Wilson handle the situation.
"My mechanics are off, for sure, but I'm not really able to isolate one particular thing," Wilson said. "I threw 80-something pitches and it looked like I threw with 40 different deliveries. It wasn't really consistent at all."
Blue Jays, after losing 12-2 in the first, 5-4 in the second, started the game with two-run homer of Edwin Encarnacion that came in the first inning against Wilson. Morrow, on the other hand, threw scoreless innings to maintain the lead.
John McDonald tripled the Blue Jays’ lead in the second inning while Morrow continued his effective pitching spell, throwing the third scoreless inning. Encarnacion scored an RBI single to make it 4-0 for the Blue Jays against the struggling Wilson.
While Morrow’s pitching spell inspired enthusiasm and caused happiness in the ballpark, J.P. Arencibia scored another single against Wilson followed by a big hit, bringing in a two-run homer for the Blue Jays that made the score 7-0 by the end of the fourth
inning.
Morrow pitched five scoreless innings, but the sixth one was greeted by Michael Young and Mike Napoli’s respective singles that momentarily brought down the Blue Jays lead to 7-2. However, allowing that run did not prompt Morrow’s change.
Instead he pitched the seventh inning, maintain the 7-2 lead of the Blue Jays only to be relieved by Trever Miller who gave up two hits and a run to Mike Napoli, taking the Texas Rangers’ score to 7-3.
However, after that, the Blue Jays’ closer Frank Francisco seemed too strong and unplayable to allow the Rangers’ hitters from getting any space. He pitched strong pitches to send the Rangers’ hitters packing, achieving an unlikely 7-3 victory for the Blue
Jays just when the Rangers seemed poised to win the series.
The Blue Jays had a brilliant game, as they managed to restrict the Rangers’ powerful offence from scoring too many runs.
