Toronto Blue Jays defeat the New York Yankees 7-3 – MLB Update
Bartolo Colon had a bad performance as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated New York Yankees 7-3 to win their first game of the three-game series at Yankee Stadium, on Monday night, May 23.
The 37-year-old pitcher had a miserable time with the ball in the first inning and allowed the Jays’ top slugger Jose Bautista a one-run homer. The right-hand hurler then struck back and tossed four scoreless innings, but completely lost his momentum in
the sixth inning.
The game was tied 1-1 when the Dominican ball thrower went wrong and gave two intentional walks before allowing Aaron Hill, the Jays second baseman, a RBI single to lead off the five-run sixth inning. With all the bases loaded, Jose Bautista scored as Eric
Thames walked due to wobbly pitches of Colon.
"I went out there and told him what I wanted to do, and he said whatever you want to do is all right with me," Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said. "We've got a groundball pitcher on the mound. The next three guys are 0 for 6 with four strikeouts. We took
a shot and it didn't work."
Despite having advice from Girardi, Colon did not settled down and threw a juicy pitch to Jonathan Paul Arencibia, who blistered it to send deep centre for an RBI triple to take the Jays to a 6-1 strong lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The Jays’ manager John Farrell was pleased on his creative moves that he made after Adam Lind was sidelined with a back injury on May 8.
Farrell said, "The sac bunt with your four-hole hitter is not your typical move but it's something we feel like we've got to go with at this point and time."
The Jays’ starter Jon Rauch, on the other hand, allowed a run in fourth inning when Robinson Cano hit a sacrifice fly to allow Curtis Granderson earn his first run for the Yankees. He allowed his second run to Robinson Cano, who grounded to shortstop Yunel
Escobar for an RBI single to reduce the lead to 2-6.
As the Colon has put his team into severe problems throwing an expensive six innings, the Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi replaced him with Hector Noesi, who stopped the Jays’ bat in the seventh inning. In the next inning though, he yielded an RBI single.
During the eighth inning, the spectators were accepting to see blistering homers from the Yankees as they launched in last game against New York Mets for a 9-3 superb win. However, this time the Yankees failed to entertain their crowd and could manage just
one RBI single touched by Cano and the Yankees lost their 21st game of the season.
