Toronto Blue Jays defeated by New York Mets 5-6 – MLB Update
New York Mets defeated Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, May 20 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
With momentum on their side, the home fans expected their team complete a deserving series sweep but the Mets raised their game to a higher level to avoid their third straight defeat. David Wright doubled to centre in the first inning to put the Mets 2-0
ahead in the first inning. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a double to centre in the same inning to extend Mets’ lead to 3-0.
The Blue Jays responded immediately, thanks to Yan Gomes who singled to left to let B Francisco score the first run and reduce Mets’ lead to 4-1. Jose Bautista homered to left in the third to bring the Blue Jays right back into the contest.
Bautista, Eric Thames and Colby Rasmus displayed some high quality hitting skills to keep Toronto’s hopes alive but the Mets held on to their slim lead to earn a thrilling victory. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee won for the first time in four appearances for
the Mets after he allowed just three runs and five hits in just over six innings.
"When you come back and take the third game of a series like that with pretty much a total team effort today, it's a great way to leave town and it's a good note to go to Pittsburgh on," Mike Baxter said in a post game interview
"It crossed my mind, but I didn't really want to get away from what I've been doing," Baxter said. "I just want to try and keep the same approach. I don't want to start messing with it."
The Mets finally managed to find winning ways against the Blue Jays as they secured a narrow 6-5 win to restore some of the lost pride. Toronto dominated them in almost all departments of the game in opener to secure a comfortable 14-5 win. John Farrell
and company continued to play aggressively in the second game as well to take a decisive 2-0 lead in the series.
