Toronto Blue Jays dominate New York Yankees with 3-0 shut-out – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ starter Brandon Morrow exhibited some exceptional pitching in the club’s 3-0 shut-out over the American League leaders New York Yankees in the rubber outing at Rogers Centre in Toronto on Sunday, September 18 to take the three-game series
2-1.
Adam Lind helped Borrow through his excellent eight-inning spell against the strongest batting line-up in the league. Borrow did not let the Yankees’ bullpen settle until he finalised his eighth inning, charging only four hits over 107 pitches long spell.
Morrow sent eight of the Yankees brilliant batters, including hard hitting Curtis Granderson and short-stop Ramiro Pena two times each. Borrow snatched his tenth win and improved his record to 10-11 in the 2011 regular season.
"I went out very aggressive," Morrow said. "I was very aggressive in my bullpen [session] and warming up, and I just said I'm going to give everything I have pretty much on every pitch, go right at them and give it my best stuff.”
Designated hitter Adam Lind backed Borrow up touching two devastating home-runs, each in the second and fourth inning. The 28-year-old lefty faced a strike, ball and strike before hammering the Yankees’ Freddy Garcia’s fastball into the stands over right-centre
for a 375-feet one-run homer. It was the 122nd hit of Lind in this season.
Lind launched another hit in the bottom of the fourth inning off the same pitcher and improved his home-run list to 26 in 120 games. Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell was happy on watching his master slugger punching the Yankees.
"What he has done is he has taken his slider and tightened it up some," manager John Farrell said. "So a lot of the pitches, where he was in fastball counts, he would go to the cutter.
J.P. Arencibia walked and then stole second base while Eric Thames hit a sacrifice fly helping Arencibia to snatch the third and final run of the outing in the bottom of the fifth.
After this hit, the Blue Jays’ batting stopped and Frank Francisco closed the game tossing 15 strikes. Francisco gave away only a single hit and punched one batter out to get his 16th save of the season.
Yankees Erick Nunez was the only batter to make three hits followed by a single hit each by Russell Martin and Curt Dickerson. Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher and other batters did not touch even a single hit.
Yankees being in the post-season race were also in trouble in the first outing of the season. Despite having 91 wins, Yankees will have to stabilise to avoid any mishap in the later phases of the season.
