Toronto Blue Jays down New York Yankees 7-5 – MLB Spring Training

Toronto Blue Jays continued their impressive run as they floored New York Yankees 7-5 at the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session. Undoubtedly, the
Jays were the superior of the two teams in a competitive spring training game on Wednesday, March 14. John Farrell and his men were unable to live up to their fans’ expectations last season.
However, with ten wins in 12 games this spring, the Jays are certainly on the right track. It will be exciting to see if they can make the most of available opportunities in later stages of the season. The Yankees, on the other hand, will have to do some
serious work to tackle the problems they are facing right now.
"His hand swelled up a lot right away," Girardi said. "I don't know what that means. ... I don't think he was necessarily trying to catch it with his hand. I think it just caught him. You don't want to see any of that but it happens."
"When (Edwin) stays through the baseball his power is as good as anybody we have and it was obviously the case today," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "He didn't try to over swing the bat or muscle up against good velocity. He trusted his hands and
that's what he's capable of.”
Edwin Encarnacion was quite outstanding for the Jays as he hit two crucial home runs, one off Yankees’ pitcher Freddy Garcia, who was hit at the base of his thumb later on. Yankees’ catcher Francisco Cervelli went to Garcia almost immediately as he knew
there was something wrong with him.
Garcia was unable to continue his throws and he was taken to the bullpen for medical treatment. Although Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi did not look concerned about Garcia’s injury, he liked what he saw from his pitcher, who is competing for the spot on pitching
rotation.
The Jays took a healthy 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth innings after Curtis Granderson had a double to right centre field. Encarnacion later added a three run shot to centre field to help Toronto establish complete control over the contest.
