Toronto Blue Jays edge Boston Red Sox 6-5 – MLB Spring Training
Toronto Blue Jays edged Boston Red Sox 6-5 on Sunday, March 25 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session. The Blue Jays will be very pleased with the way they outclassed one of the strongest teams in American League.
Boston’s starter Daniel Bard looked completely out of sorts as he allowed five runs and six hits in six innings as the Red Sox lost to the Jays 5-6. The converted reliever is still getting used to starting duties and it will be interesting to see if he can make the most of available opportunities during the regular season.
"He worked runners when they were on base. He got ground balls when he needed to, got some swings and misses when he needed to, too," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "Overall I liked everything. He had some tough breaks but worked his way out of jams, had some pitches that could've been called strikes. He didn't let them affect him. ... What was there not to like besides the five runs on the board? I think some of them could've been prevented."
For the Blue Jays, Adam Lind hit a crucial home run in the second innings and Brett Lawrie hit a run scoring double in the fourth innings.
Considering their impressive 19-4 win-loss record, it will be safe to say that the Blue Jays have a real chance to win the World Series title this season. A couple of decades ago, the Blue Jays were considered as one of the most promising teams in Major League Baseball.
Winning the 1993 and 1992 World Series’ titles, the Blue Jays proved themselves a force to be reckoned with. However, nothing lasts forever. The Blue Jays have struggled to live up to the expectations in the last few years and they will be hoping to turn the tables in 2012.
The Red Sox, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the outcome of the clash. Bobby Valentine and his men showed great determination, fighting spirits and mental toughness to stay in the game but they were unable to execute their game plan in pressure situations.
