Toronto Blue Jays edge Chicago White Sox 3-2 in series opener – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays edged the Chicago White Sox 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Monday, August 13 in the opening game of their three match series.
Edwin Encarnacion singled to shallow right in the third innings to break the deadlock and put his side 1-0 ahead but the White Sox were also determined to have a decent outing. Adam Dunn homered to centre to level the score 1-1.
Right fielder Moises Sierra homered to left centre in the seventh to help Toronto reclaim their one run lead but Dunn hit his second home-run in the ninth to push the game into an extra inning. David Copper delivered the go ahead single in the 11th and
the Blue Jays held on to clinch a memorable win.
"Besides Adam, we didn't really get anything going, didn't look fluid or anything," Manager Robin Ventura said. "We have to get something else going besides waiting for home runs."
"For one reason or another, we don't seem to score too much for him," Ventura said of Chicago’s starting pitcher Jake Peavy who pitched eight solid innings. "He always goes out there knowing each pitch can cost him. We need to do a better job of giving him
more room to pitch with."
Handling their nerves absolutely brilliantly, the Blue Jays outplayed their opponents in finer details of the game on Sunday to secure a much needed victory. With just four wins in their last ten games, John Farrell and company have definitely struggled
to achieve their desired results after the All Star Break. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can learn from their lesson to end the season on a bright note.
White Sox, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the outcome of the game. With a little bit more luck on their side, Robin Ventura could have prevailed in the contest but that did not turn out to be the case. Leaders of the AL Central Division, Chicago
White Sox will be looking to put things back on track in Game 2 of the series.
