Toronto Blue Jays edge New York Mets 2-0 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays edged New York Mets 2-0 on a thrilling encounter at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, May 19 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Kelly Johnson’s double in the fifth provided Toronto with a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. In a game where runs were hard to come by, Yunel Escobar singled to right to double Blue Jays’ advantage to 2-0. The Mets had several scoring opportunities but they were unable to convert any of them.
"I'm feeling pretty good," Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow said after winning for the fifth time in just six outings. "As long as I'm locating my fastball, I think I'm going to have a good game."
"It was huge," Kelly Johnson said after playing a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the game. "It was a scary situation. You're looking at second and third with one out and the middle of their order (coming up). They still have (David) Wright on the bench. That was a huge defensive play from our best player."
"That's a tough one to lose," Terry Collins said.
With their win on Saturday’s evening, the Blue Jays also took a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. John Farrell and company dominated the opener with some high quality baseball, thanks to a special effort from their offence that put up 14 runs on the board.
Credit must be given to the Mets for the way they fought in the second game but the Blue Jays took complete advantage of the home conditions and their fans’ support as they secured a narrow win to improve their record to 23-18.
It has been a while since the Blue Jays lost won their last World Series title and if they can continue to give similar performances throughout the season, they may finally have another successful season.
New York will be looking to learn their lessons to turn the tables in the finale. Although the result of series has already been decided, they can end the contest on a high to make themselves proud.
