Toronto Blue Jays edge past Baltimore Orioles 6-5 – MLB 2013
Toronto Blue Jays showed excellent fighting skills and determination as they edged past the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, April 24 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League
Baseball regular season.
Orioles secured narrow wins in first two games of the series and with momentum on their side, Buck Showalter and company had an excellent chance to wrap up a memorable series sweep against their American League East Division rivals. However, despite having
the home conditions working in their favour, Baltimore was unable to find the winning ways.
"It would have been a tough game to lose. It was a big game to win," said Toronto manager John Gibbons, who was ejected in the ninth inning after his team blew a 5-2 lead in the seventh.
"I just had a hard time throwing a strike," Johnson said. "Kind of lost feel, and obviously that's a terrible way to lose a game."
"It's not something I dwell on," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said in a post game interview. "I know our guys don't. But I understand how it's noteworthy."
Blue Jays will be very happy with their effort that improved their win loss record to 9-13. It will be interesting to see if they can continue the good work in their upcoming games to have any chance of making it to the playoffs. Despite making a poor start
to the season last year, the Orioles lifted their spirits to finish second on the American League East Division standings table. However with more strength and variety in their pitching and batting lineup they will be looking to win the AL East title this
year.
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Brandon Morrow played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he allowed just three hits and four runs in six plus accurate innings. Relief pitcher Esmil Rogers grabbed his first win of the season after he allowed just
two hits in the scoreless tenth. Shortstop Maicer Izturis drove in the tie breaking single in the extra inning.
