Toronto Blue Jays edge past Detroit Tigers 8-6 - MLB News
Toronto Blue Jays edged past the Detroit Tigers 8-6 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, April 10 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Tigers will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the clash, despite having the home conditions working in their favour. Tigers who dominated their American League Central Division rivals in every aspect of the game in the opener were unable
to come up with the winning formula in Game 2. Despite putting up a brave fight, Jim Leyland and his men were unable to cross the finish line. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn from their mistakes to end the series on a bright note.
Blue Jays on the other hand will be delighted with the quality of their game play in an important game. It will be exciting to see if they can continue the good work in the finale to secure a memorable series win against the Tigers.
"No reason to panic, but when you see it slipping away in the fifth or sixth inning, it was nice for the bats to come alive," said Mark DeRosa. "We obviously didn't get off to the start we wanted to, but we fought."
"We really didn't give ourselves a chance," Leyland said. "We walked the guys. You don't give yourself a chance when you walk guys."
"You never like to see a teammate get hit with a line drive," DeRosa said. "But for the ball to carom right to me -- maybe things are starting to change a little bit."
Tigers’ starting pitcher Rick Porcello paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he allowed eight hits and four runs in just five innings. Porcello was unable to control his fastball and sliders and the Blue Jays took complete advantage of the
situation. Relief pitcher Brayan Villarreal took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits. Porcello’s counterpart from Toronto Mark Buehrle was also hit hard as he gave up seven hits and six runs in just four plus innings.
