Toronto Blue Jays edge past Minnesota Twins 2-1 – MLB Update

Toronto Blue Jays produced another fine performance as they edged past the Minnesota Twins 2-1 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, October 3 in the finale of their three match series.
With their win, the Blue Jays also completed an emphatic series sweep against their American League rivals. Manager John Farrell will be very pleased with what he saw from his men in all three games of the series.
Showing great composure and fighting spirit, Toronto held their nerves to clinch a thrilling 6-5 win in the opener. With momentum on their side, they continued the good work in Game 2 to take an impassable 2-0 series.
Credit should be given to the pitching rotation for sticking to their plan to create all sorts of problems for the Twins’ batting line-up. Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow led from the front as he gave up just three hits and one run in eight brilliant innings
to lay the foundation of a superb Blue Jays’ victory. Striking-out a season high 11 batters, he used his fastballs and sliders very effectively.
"It was like I was coming up for the first time again," Twins’ starter Scott Diamond said of his energy and excitement. "It's the first time coming home and having a lot of people in the stands. The adrenaline was running a little bit more than normal."
"I let my Canadian heritage shine a little bit by kick-saving it over to first base," Diamond joked. "It's a little sore right now but I'm glad we got the out."
"He's got all winter to get well," Gardenhire said of Trevor Plouffe. "I think he'll be OK."
Relief pitcher Brandon Lyon pitched a scoreless ninth to help his side hold on to their one run lead. Rajai Davis provided the Blue Jays with an excellent start as he singled to left in the third inning to break the deadlock. Second baseman Adeiny Hechavarria
doubled the lead with an RBI single to shallow centre in the third. Matt Carson drove in the only Twins’ run as he grounded into fielder’s choice to third in the fourth inning.
The Blue Jays will be happy with their performance as they managed to get a good win over the Minnesota Twins.
