Toronto Blue Jays edge past New York Yankees 3-2 – MLB Recap
Toronto Blue Jays edge past the New York Yankees 3-2 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 29 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Blue Jays’ entire roster did well in the field and outclassed the Yankees in every area of play. They took healthy lead early in the game and later did not give any chance to the Yankees to play freely which eventually landed the Blue Jays’ a good victory in the end.
"We had chances to blow that game open and we didn't, You look at the opportunities that you have and you say, 'We could have a pretty big lead here,' but we didn't do it," manager Joe Girardi said.
Nick Swisher said, "We had some opportunities tonight, couldn't make it happen, It's not like we're going to get down on ourselves. We've got to keep pushing, come back here (Sunday) with a fire. (Sunday) is going to be a must win, We put ourselves in this situation, our destiny is in our own hands and we've got to go out and take it.”
Blue Jays’ upfront batting line-up and pitchers played wonderfully and defeated the Yankees in style. Jays’ left fielder Rajai Davis batted four times and scored one run and smashed three hits along with two RBIs on his .382 slugging percentage.
Shortstop Yunel Escobar added one run and smashed one hit on his three at-bats while he also remained consistent at .343.
Catcher Jeff Mathis also played well and scored one run and smashed one hit. He played aggressively during his three at-bats and kept the Yankees' pitchers under pressure as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .391.
Along with batters, the Blue Jays pitchers also played offensively and did not give any loop-holes to their opponents.
Ricky Romero pitched three innings and allowed two runs and six hits. He struck-out three and remained consistent at his 5.77 ERA.
Relief pitcher Shawn Hill pitched three innings and did not give any run or hit. Though he could not strike-out any Yankees' hitter but overall his pitching was certainly consistent which provided the Blue Jays a wonderful victory.
