Toronto Blue Jays hammer Oakland Athletics 5-2 – MLB Recap
The Toronto Blue Jays’ hammered the Oakland Athletics 5-2 in their second and final game of two-game encounter in 2012 Major League Baseball competition on Wednesday, May 9, at O.co Coliseum, Oakland and levelled the series 1-1.
Previously on Tuesday in their first game of the series, the Athletics came out victorious with 7-3.
However, in this particular game, not only the Blue Jays came back into the series with a tremendous win, but they also never allowed the A’s strong batting line up to dominate on them during the entire game.
First baseman Adam Lind played handsomely and provided early lead of two runs in the fourth inning with a two run homer. While the catcher J.P. Arencibia and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion added one run each which proved ultimate for the Blue Jays’ victory.
Blue Jays manager John Farrell said for Adam’s tremendous play, “Adam responded well to the move in the lineup, It was just nice to score some runs."
Toronto's closing pitcher Casey Janssen also played brilliantly and proved much helpful for his team. He finished ninth inning with style giving no chance to the A’s batters to hit him freely.
Closer Casey Janssen said, "I tried to treat it like any other inning. My heart was going hard but that's a good thing, I wanted to attack the zone and make them earn everything. I've done it before. By no means am I a veteran of the ninth, but I do have experience. You love pitching in those situations. I've felt I really haven't contributed much this year and now I have the opportunity to make more of an impact."
From start to end, the Blue Jays kept the pressure on the A’s and never allowed them to settle. Scoring one run each into sixth, seventh and eighth inning, the Blue Jays’ pitching rotation made sure that the A’s must not catch them into the final inning as well which eventually proved decisive for them as they ended the game winning with 5-2.
Despite this win, the Toronto Blue Jays now have turned their attention towards the next important series with the Minnesota Twins which will be beginning on Thursday, May 10.
