Toronto Blue Jays hammered by Tampa Bay Rays 5-11 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were hammered by the Tampa Bay Rays 5-11 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Saturday, September 22 in second game of their three match series.
Blue Jays were annihilated in series opener 1-12 and they continued to struggle against the inform Rays’ batting line-up on Saturday to take an embarrassing series loss.
John Farrell and company are out of the playoffs race but they will be looking to turn the tables on their American League East Division rivals in the finale to give their fans something to cheer about.
Blue Jays’ pitching rotation in particular had no place to hide on Saturday. Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow had a horrible time on the mound as he gave up five hits and five runs in just four innings to suffer his seventh loss of the season. Relief pitcher
Brad Lincoln gave up six runs on six hits in just 0.2 innings of relief, allowing Rays to establish complete control over the contest.
Brett Cecil, Jason Frasor and Joel Carreno combined to pitch three scoreless innings but the Blue Jays left themselves with too much work to do.
"I really don't feel (fatigued)," Moore said. "That's definitely not the issue."
"It's time to get back in there," Farrell said. "Whether he's completely over what has taken place, I would venture to say that he's not. These are the things that he has to deal with."
"I can only speak to the last two years," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "It's an outstanding pitching staff. We've been in some close games here late in games where they've hit a ball out of the ballpark or scored some runs late. They're a good team."
Edwin Encarnacion put Blue Jays on the board as he singled to left in the first inning to score the first run. Adam Lind hit a sacrifice fly to centre to double Blue Jays lead 2-0. Rays bounce back strongly as Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings hit consecutive
home-runs. Jose Molina and B.J. Upton smacked home-runs against Lincoln to help Rays secure a comfortable win.
The Blue Jays will be disappointed with their poor performance against the Rays. It will be interesting to see if they can pull themselves up and gain some much needed confidence for the remainder of the season.
