Toronto Blue Jays humiliate New York Yankees 16-7 in series-opener – MLB Update
The Toronto Blue Jays scorched eight runs to Bartolo Colon in the first as the club crushed the strong New York Yankees 16-7 in the first outing of the first four-game series after the All-Star break at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Thursday, July 14.
The American League’s Blue Jays’ starter Jo Jo Reyes landed in a positive attitude and crushed the Yankees’ starter Bartolo Colon. After Aaron Hill started the destruction with his RBI double, the Blue Jays’ batting line-up destroyed Colon. Travis Snider,
Rajai Davis and Yunel Escobar added one run while Eric Thames touched an RBI double to force the Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi to drop Colon.
After Luis Ayala relieved Colon, he allowed a balk to Eric Thames that added another score to elevate the lead to 8-0 stunning position. The Blue Jays did not stop there and added another run in the second inning.
The Yankees opened their account in the third inning with a ballistic homer by Andruw Jones. Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira each contributed to reduce the margin to 9-4. Andruw Jones launched another dazzling homer, this time for three runs in the top
of the sixth inning to cut it to 9-7. However, after this run they remained in a struggling position against the Blue Jays’ strong relievers and closer.
The Blue Jays, on the other hand carried their momentum. Edwin Encarnacion scored an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning, Eric Thames added an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and Travis Snider touched a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
J.P. Arencibia and Rajai Davis also scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead to 16-7.
Colon lost his fifth game, allowing eight runs on six hits and walking two batters over just under an inning. His loss sent him to 6-5 record with 3.47 ERA.
"I don't blame anybody," he said through a translator. "That was my fault. I didn't pitch good and they hit me and I lost the game."
The Yankees did not play a good game with the bat, but their manager still have a firm belief in his batters.
"You don't make too much of one game but it was not a good game on our part," Girardi said. "Offensively we swung the bats good. Defensively and pitching, we did not necessarily play that well."
The current leader of the Majors, Jose Bautista had an injury in an attempt to reach the third base in the fourth inning. He did not speak to media after the game and disappeared for treatment, however his manager John Farrell said Bautista had his spike
in the dirt.
