Toronto Blue Jays humiliate New York Yankees 6-0 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays annihilated the New York Yankees 6-0 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday, September 27 in the opening game of their four match series.
Blue Jays used their home conditions absolutely brilliantly on Thursday evening to dominate their American League East Division rivals in almost all departments of the game. The pitching rotation in particular played a big part in deciding the outcome of
the clash. Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow had one of the best nights of his career as he gave up just four hits in seven shut-out innings to grab his ninth win of the season.
"We stayed with a good mix of everything all night, tried to keep them off balance and not fall into any patterns," Morrow said.
"It didn't seem like he was really raring back tonight," New York's Nick Swisher said of Morrow in a post game interview. "It felt like he was pitching. He was throwing a lot more cutters than I remember, a lot more changeups, breaking balls, things like
that, rather than that flat 96 (mph). He did a good job."
"Every time you're in there it feels like you're behind in the count," Yankees’ catcher Russell Martin said.
Relief pitchers Brandon Lincoln and Dan Oliver continued the good work, tossing up two scoreless innings to help Blue Jays shut-out the Yankees.
Third baseman Brett Lawrie displayed some top quality hitting skills as he homered to right in the third inning to break the deadlock and put Blue Jays on the board. Edwin Encarnacion also had a wonderful outing as he doubled to deep right in the fifth to
double Blue Jays lead to 4-0.
Encarnacion earned an RBI groundout to shortstop in the seventh and J.P. Arencibia homered to left in the eighth to help Blue Jays claim an impassable 6-0 lead.
Yankees had several scoring opportunities but they were unable to take advantage of them. Despite taking the loss, Joe Girardi and company are on their way to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if they can fight back in Game 2 to level the series
1-1.
