Toronto Blue Jays humiliated by Baltimore Orioles 0-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were annihilated by the Baltimore Orioles 0-4 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Monday, September 3 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Blue Jays will be extremely disappointed with their batting effort. They had a number of opportunities to score runs but failed to do so. Orioles, on the other hand, put up a fine pitching performance to keep their opponents on the defensive.
Starting pitcher Joe Saunders pitched with great control and accuracy for the Orioles, giving up just three hits in six scoreless innings to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. His counterpart from Toronto, J.A. Happ looked a bit out of
sorts as he allowed six hits and three runs to take his second loss of the season.
"You think about it," Saunders said, smiling. "I thought about it after the first. I was like 'Ooh, nice. I didn't give up a hit in the first.'"
"When I got traded over here they had a great thing going," he further added. "You just want to come over here and contribute as much as you can. You don't want to mess it up and get blown up a lot."
"Obviously Moises had a difficult time with the sun in right," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said of Moises Sierra who had a tough time on the field.
Blue Jays are out of the playoff race but they will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about. Surely, they will bounce back strongly in Game 2 to keep the series alive.
Nate McLouth looked in top form as he sacrificed to pitcher in the second inning to put Orioles 1-0 ahead. Nick Markakis continued to put the pressure on Blue Jays’ pitching rotation, adding a double to left in the fifth inning to extend Orioles lead to
2-0.
J.J. Hardy doubled to left in the fifth inning to make the score 3-0 and later earned an RBI single to centre in the eighth inning to deny Blue Jays any chance of coming back into the contest.
