Toronto Blue Jays humiliated by Baltimore Orioles 2-12 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays suffered a forgettable 2-12 loss against the Baltimore Orioles at Orioles Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, September 26 in the finale of their four match series.
After losing in the opener, the Blue Jays showed great fighting abilities in Game 2 to level the series. John Farrell and company continued to play aggressively in Game 3 as well to take an impassable 2-1 series lead.
The finale presented Toronto with an excellent opportunity to wrap up an impressive series victory against the inform Orioles but that did not turn out to be the case.
Orioles were just too hot to handle on Wednesday as they smacked seven home-runs to secure a comfortable victory. Credit should be given to the batting line-up for converting every scoring opportunity.
Nate McLouth, Jim Thome, Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Mark Reynolds all homered as Orioles put 12 runs on the board. For the Blue Jays, Edwin Encarnacion homered to left centre in the first inning but apart from him no other hitter could live up to the
expectations.
"We just got through playing Boston and we played them well," Davis said. "Obviously, the three in Tampa are going to be tough, but we're at a point where we still have a chance, so that's all you can ask for."
"That's crazy," Machado said. "It's a pretty good stat. I remember when I used to watch (Thome) play when I was a little kid. Now to hit a home run in the same inning he did, just feels great."
Toronto’s starting pitcher Carlos Villanueva had a horrible time on the mound as he allowed seven hits and six runs in just over four innings to take his seventh loss of the season.
Relief pitchers Brandon Lyon, Joel Carreno, Chad Beck and David Carpenter all struggled to stop of the flow runs, giving up six runs in just over three innings.
"Those mistakes I made, they hit them with authority. They put the power stroke on them and made me pay for them," Villanueva said.
Blue Jays will be facing the mighty New York Yankees in their next series and it will be interesting to see if they can end the season on a positive note.
