Toronto Blue Jays humiliated by New York Yankees 0-6 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were humiliated by the New York Yankees 0-6 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, July 18 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
John Farrell and his men paid the ultimate price for their low quality play on Wednesday and the Yankees dominated each aspect of the game to complete an emphatic series sweep.
New York fought hard to secure a 6-3 win in the opening game. Ace C.C. Sabathia, who made his comeback from injury, put up a power show on Tuesday in Game 2 to help the Yankees secure a comfortable 6-1 win.
Similar pattern of play was observed on Wednesday as the Yankees played with complete authority. Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda had an excellent time on the mound. Pitching with great control and precision, Kuroda grabbed his ninth win of the season.
Toronto’s starting pitcher Ricky Romero, on the other hand, got the taste of his own medicine as he ended up giving 12 hits and six runs in six waivered innings. It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back from such an embarrassing loss.
"Well, it was a costly series," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said. "Obviously getting swept, first and foremost, and then the injury to Jose in Game 1 and then today with Brett going over the railing."
"It's not what we envisioned," Farrell said. "And yet, I thought we came in here and we played well for the first game and three-quarters. (The Yankees are) a very good team that's probably playing their best baseball of the year over the last month or so."
Nick Swisher put the Yankees on the board with an RBI single in the first inning. Mark Teixeira homered to left-centre and Dewayne Wise drove in crucial runs as the Yankees scored at regular intervals.
Blue Jays, who are sitting at the bottom of the American League East Division standings, still have a very slim chance to reach the playoffs. Farrell will be looking to come up with a better plan in the next series to help his team get over the .500 win
percentage mark.
