Toronto Blue Jays humiliated by New York Yankees 1-6 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were humiliated by the New York Yankees 1-6 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Monday, July 17 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia bounced back strongly from the Disabled List as he put up a match winning performance for his team. Pitching a four hitter, he created all sorts of problems for the Blue Jay’s offence.
Tossing up six scoreless innings with six strike-outs, Sabathia improved his record to 10-3 on Tuesday.
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Brett Cecil failed to match his counterpart from the Yankees, giving up six hits and three runs in six innings.
His shaky effort in the early stages allowed New York to establish complete control over the contest.
Toronto’s pitcher Sam Dyson had a forgettable time on the mound as he gave up three runs on four hits in just 0.1 innings.
It will be interesting to see if the injury plagued rotation can make a strong come back in Game 3 of this series.
"I felt really good about it," Cecil said in a post game interview. "It was just one pitch."
Andruw Jones provided the Yankees with a great start as he homered to left in the second inning. Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher scored to put their side 3-0 ahead.
Chris Stewart, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter also made useful contributions in the seventh inning to take the lead beyond the Blue Jays’ reach.
"We've been doing a little bit of everything," Jeter said. "We've got a pretty good combination of things going right now."
"That's a pretty big void anytime you lose a guy like that, so we'll adjust along the way and continue to put up a good game plan," Toronto manager John Farrell said of Bautista.
Colby Rasmus drove in the only Blue Jays’ run in the eighth inning. With Jose Bautista also out of the line-up with an injury, it seems Manager John Farrell has no other way but to find a defensive approach to overcome the mighty Yankees in the finale.
