"He was all right," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He got `em out, didn't he?"
The Phillies scored four runs in second inning to take complete control over the contest. Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre made useful contributions in hitting department of the game.
Toronto’s number 1 starter Ricky Romero also displayed some high quality pitching skills as he gave up only one hit over two shutout innings.
"I made some good pitches," Romero said. "I was a little off at the beginning but I felt great. I was working on my fastball, working to keep it down. The changeup is a little off but other than that, the cutters in the second inning were good pitches."
Jays were unable to live up to the expectations last season. They will be hoping to rectify the problems in their game plan before the start of 2012 regular season. It will be interesting to see if they learn their lessons in their next Spring Training fixture.
