Toronto Blue Jays lose to Atlanta Braves 3-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were beaten by Atlanta Braves 3-4 at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, June 8 in a closely contested opener of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
In some ways, the series will be of great importance for the Blue Jays. If John Farrell and company can win the next two games, they will have an excellent chance to get to the top of American League East Division standings table. It will be interesting
to see if the Blue Jays can learn their lessons to put up a strong performance in their upcoming game.
Dan Uggla was quite outstanding for the Braves as he walked in the third and Brandon Beachy put his side 1-0 ahead. Jose Bautista responded brilliantly for the Blue Jays, hitting might home run over the left field in the sixth inning to level score at 1-1.
J.P. Arencibia also displayed some top quality hitting skills as he grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop on the sixth to help Toronto take a crucial 2-1 lead but the Braves used their home conditions to great effect as they bounced back strongly.
Jason Heyward scored twice in the sixth to give the Braves a crucial 3-2 lead. Yunel Escobar grounded out to shortstop in the eighth to spice up things but Heyward go ahead run in the tenth let the Braves prevail in a thrilling encounter.
"It was all on my own," Heyward said. "I knew I had a great chance at taking a base and putting some pressure on them and they ended up throwing it away."
"It was huge," he added. "It paid off. ... I knew it was over. We were rewarded. You take a gamble right there, and that's why you did it. If I get the base, even if they don't throw it away, it's still a man on third with one out."
Credit must be given to Heyward for the he performed under pressure. Showing great composure on the plate, he now has ten stolen bases this season, which is already more than his total from last year.
