Toronto Blue Jays lose to Baltimore Orioles 2-5 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were crushed by Baltimore Orioles 2-5 at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, April 26 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. John Farrell and company will be very disappointed with the way they have surrendered to pressure in their series against Baltimore.
Eric Thames displayed some high quality hitting skills as he tripled to the right in the sixth to give Toronto 2-1 lead. However, rest of the Blue Jays’ battling line up went down like nine pins and the Orioles battled back in the eighth and the ninth to surprise their opponents.
Blue Jays scored just three runs in the entire series. In a post game interview, Jose Bautista stated that the offence will have to produce more runs to revive Blue Jays’ campaign.
"I'm not really worried about the offense," Bautista said. "I know we're going to pick it up. Hopefully, it's sooner rather than later. Our pitching is doing awesome. On the offensive side, we'd like to give them better support."
"We've got to play better collectively," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "The way this road trip started out, with a four-game sweep in Kansas City, to have it end this way kind of leaves a bad taste."
For Orioles, Adam Jones homered to the left field in the closing stages of the game to dent Blue Jays’ confidence levels. Darren O’Day pitched two perfect innings to make things simple for Orioles’ defence.
Orioles prevailed in a competitive and nail biting opening game of the series to dent their opponents’ confidence levels. The second game turned out to be fairly one sided as the Orioles dominated the Blue Jays in finer details of the game to secure a decisive 2-0 lead.
Toronto was hoping to redeem themselves against Baltimore in the final game but despite having 2-1 lead in the sixth they were unable to cross the winning line. Buck Showalter and his men showed great focus, fighting spirit and mental strength to come back from behind to seal an emphatic victory.
