Toronto Blue Jays lose to Baltimore Orioles 4-6 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were beaten by the Baltimore Orioles 4-6 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, August 24 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Kelly Johnson made the most of available opportunities early on as he singled to left in the second inning to put the Blue Jays on the board. Baltimore responded immediately.
Chris Davis showed just what he is capable of as he smacked three home-runs to help the Orioles establish complete control over the contest. Blue Jays played well in closing stages of the game but the Orioles held on to their lead with ease to complete an
impressive victory.
"I was definitely thinking about the home run," Davis said. "He gave me a good pitch to hit on the first pitch and I fouled it off. He was tough after that, but the biggest thing is we get the win and I enjoyed a pretty good night."
Toronto’s starting pitcher Carlos Villanueva paid the price for his errors on the mound as he gave up five hits and four runs in just over five innings. He seemed to be struggling throughout the game and the Orioles capitalised on it.
"He had a good day," Villanueva said. "He's capable of doing that. You make some mistakes, he did what you're supposed to do with them. Especially the last two. He won them the ballgame, simple as that."
Blue Jays showed some great resistance and fighting spirit but failed to grab a victory. The match was played on an extremely competitive note with both teams putting in maximum effort but it was the Orioles who held their nerves to prevail, securing a 1-0
series lead.
Manager John Farrell looked extremely disappointed with the outcome of the clash. Blue Jays have not been able to perform to their potential after the All Star Break and it will not be wrong to say that they are out of the playoff race. It will be interesting
to see if the Blue Jays can end the season on a positive note to give their fans something to cheer about.
