Toronto Blue Jays lose to Kansas City Royals 6-9 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays lost to Kansas City Royals 6-9 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday, July 5 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager John Farrell will be a bit disappointed with the result of the series. The Blue Jays had the home conditions working in their favour and they were the favourites to win the series but the Royals were also determined to shatter their dreams.
Kansas City had the better of their opponents in series opener. Credit must be given to the Blue Jays, who up their game considerably in the following two games to take a 2-1 lead in the series. With momentum on their side, Toronto was looking to wrap up
the series in an emphatic fashion but the offence put up a strong show to lift the Royals to an important victory.
Alcides Escobar provided the Royals with an excellent start as he singled to right in the third inning to put his side on the board. Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler continued to put pressure on the Blue Jays to extend the lead to 3-0.
"(Perez) has been a big boost to our club, both defensively and offensively," Royals’ Manager Ned Yost said.
"We put that big inning together and that was huge for us," Hosmer said. "We capitalized on the mistakes and that's key for us."
"I thought it was going to be a double down the line and clear the bases and (Lawrie) snared it," Butler said. "I could have easily had 10 hits this year against them but I got one."
For the Blue Jays, J.P. Arencibia displayed some top quality hitting skills to bring his side back into the contest. With back-to-back home-runs in the third and the seventh, he reduced the Royals’ lead to 5-3. Yunel Escobar and Ben Francisco also made useful
contributions with the bat but the Royals held on to their lead to level the series 2-2.
Toronto’s starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez made another power showing as he gave up five runs and eight hits in just over five innings.
