Toronto Blue Jays lose to New York Yankees 3-6 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were outclassed by the New York Yankees 3-6 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Monday, July 16 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Joe Girardi and company continued to dominate the American League as they put up another fine performance to leave the second placed Baltimore Orioles nine games behind on the AL East Division standings table.
Adam Lind had another excellent outing with the bat as he homered to right in the fourth inning to keep the Blue Jays in the game. Edwin Encarnacion drove in a vital run in the sixth inning that levelled the score 2-2.
Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez pitched six solid innings, giving up two runs on five hits but despite his best efforts, he ended up on the losing side.
There was more bad news for Toronto as slugger Jose Bautista suffered a wrist injury, which can force him out of the next game.
"Certainly wasn't a bad outing," Yankees’ starting pitcher Phil Hughes said in a post game interview. "If this is the low end for the second half, that will be great."
"There will be a follow-up transaction tomorrow," Farrell said. "Certainly, Jose's not going to be ready to go tomorrow."
"He didn't say exactly when he hurt the wrist,” Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said. "But through the course of completing the swing he felt a little bit of a popping sensation."
It will not be wrong to say that the Yankees are having one of their best seasons in club’s history this year.
Despite losing C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte to injuries, the bullpen has shown no signs of vulnerability. Yankees’ offence is also packed with some of the most talented hitters in the game.
Toronto Blue Jays, on the other hand, will be desperately looking to find an answer to the problems they are facing.
Right now, they are at the bottom of the AL East Division standings and it will be exciting to see if they can come up with a decent plan in Game 2 to trouble the inform Yankees.
