Toronto Blue Jays lose to Seattle Mariners 2-3 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Seattle Mariners 2-3 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, September 12 in second game of their three match series.
After losing 3-4 in the opener, the Blue Jays were looking to level up the series with a solid effort in Game 2 but that did not turn out be the case. Credit should be given to Mariners for using the conditions absolutely superbly. Although Mariners are
out of the playoff race, they will be looking to continue their impressive form to end the season on a bright note.
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Ricky Romero took his 14th loss of the season after allowing eight hits and three runs in just four innings. Relief pitchers Steve Delabar, Brandon Lyon, Darren Oliver and Casey Janssen combined to toss up five scoreless
innings but the Blue Jays were unable to score enough runs on Wednesday.
"They had me against the ropes a few times and I was able to get out of those jams," Romero said. "It didn't play out like I wanted it to."
Seattle’s starter Kevin Millwood produced a match winning performance, allowing just two hits and two runs in five innings for his sixth win of the year. Closer Tom Wilhelmsen held his nerves under pressure as he pitched the perfect ninth for his 26th save.
"It's not the way you want to be when you're out there," the veteran right-hander Millwood said. "I felt like, for the most part, I could still throw the ball where I wanted to, there was just really nothing on it."
"Too early to really talk about it," Wedge said. "We'll see how he feels when he comes in here the next couple of days."
Miguel Olivo provided Mariners with an excellent start as he connected for a solo home-run to left centre in the second inning to put his side on the board. Centre fielder Franklin Gutierrez singled to right in the fourth inning to extend Seattle’s lead
to 3-0.
For Toronto, Edwin Encarnacion smacked a two run home-run to left in the fourth but his effort could not save his side from another home defeat.
