Toronto Blue Jays lose to Seattle Mariners 3-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays lost to Seattle Mariners 3-4 in a thrilling encounter at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, September 11 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The running season has proved to be a great regret for the Blue Jays who are placed fourth on the American League East Division standings table with a poor 64-76 record. Blue Jays’ inability to handle pressure is the reason why there is inconsistency in
their results.
The pitching rotation, in particular, has struggled throughout the season. Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow had another disappointing outing as he gave up 11 hits and four runs in just over four innings to take his sixth loss of the season.
Relief pitchers Brett Cecil, Brad Lincoln and Jason Frasor combined to toss up four scoreless innings but the Blue Jays were unable to score enough runs on Tuesday.
"The only thing that kept that from being eight runs was probably my changeup," Morrow said in a post game interview. "I had a decent changeup and was able to keep them off-balance a little bit that way."
Third baseman Kyle Seager provided the Mariners with an excellent start as he singled to centre in the first inning to put his side on the board. Michael Saunders doubled the lead with a singled to shallow left in the first.
"We swung the bats really well," Wedge said of Seager at the end of the game. "I would like to have seen us put a few more tallies up there, but that doesn't take away from the way we swung the bats. We had a lot of hits and a lot of hard outs."
Blue Jays responded brilliantly to reduce Mariners’ lead 3-2 in the third inning but Seager hit a solo home-run to right in the fifth inning to restore Mariners’ two run lead.
Moises Sierra earned an RBI groundout to second in the eighth to keep Blue Jays in the hunt but Seattle’s closer Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a scoreless ninth to hold off the Blue Jays in a tight contest.
