Toronto Blue Jays lost to New York Yankees 3-5 – MLB News
Toronto Blue Jays were beaten by the New York Yankees 3-5 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Thursday April 25 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
After ending the previous series against Baltimore Orioles on a winning note, the Blue Jays were looking to continue the good work in the series opener against New York but that did not turn out to be the case.
Yankees used their home conditions absolutely brilliantly as they outclassed their American League East Division opponents in finer details of the game. Blue Jays posted poor results in 2012 and following the criticism from their fans,
they were forced to make a lot of changes in the team but so far the batting and pitching combinations of their choice have not worked for them.
It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can gain some confidence before the All Star Break to have any chance of making it to the playoffs. Yankees on the other hand will be extremely happy with the outcome of the clash. With their
win on Thursday evening, the Yankees improved their win loss record to 12-9 and surely they have gained psychological advantage over the Blue Jays. Edwin Encarnacion homered to left in the first inning to put Toronto on the board.
"I asked him how could they overturn it if there is no appeal by the other side. I thought the rule was that there had to be an appeal by the other side for them to get together," Toronto’s Manager John Gibbons said. "That was my interpretation
of the rule. They are a good umpiring crew, they're trying to get it right."
Gibbons added: "You kind of wish they had done that when Galarraga was pitching the perfect game."
Brett Lawrie smacked a solo home run to right in the second inning to extend the lead to 3-0 but New York responded fiercely. Vernon Wells, Robinson Cano and Francisco Cervelli hit back to back home runs to help the Yankees come back from
behind to clinch a thrilling win in front of their home crowd.
