Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell speaks out on loss to Texas Rangers
Luck was not with the Toronto Blue Jays when the visiting team from the American League East took on the reigning American League Champions, the Texas Rangers.
Going out to Arlington to face the opponents at the Rangers Ballpark was considered a daunting task but being two games up was considered good stint in the competition. The chance to enforce a clean sweep on the Texans, however, failed as errors and bad
pitching gave the fixture away.
The Blue Jays had a hard task to sustain a winning streak.
However, the situation did not get better as the hosts established a four run lead at the end of the bottom third. Going 2-6 down, the Canadian ball club had to change reliever Jo-Jo Reyes. On came Carlos Villanueva, who did a decent job on the mound.
Manager John Farrell looked back at the game and showered his reliever with praise, who allowed no hit and just a walk in 3 1/3 innings.
"This is now the third time where [Carlos] has done just like this tonight, where's he's stabilized the game", Farrell said. "He continues to do a very good job of going extended innings. If it wasn't for his 3 1/3 innings of work, we're looking at a greater
deficit than we were".
When he left Juan Rivera had helped the Blue Jays edge a fighting chance out of the team as he tied the game on 6–6 with a home run in the top seventh. He also was instrumental on April 25, 2011, when he smashed a homer against starter, Colby Lewis.
"Rivera obviously swung the bat with authority in this series", Farrell said.
A Mitch Moreland homer was all it took to take the game away from Toronto. Octavio Dotel conceded a solo home run to lose the game for the Blue Jays.
"We swung the bat exceptionally well again tonight", Farrell said. "Even getting the two-run lead and fighting back in, we responded to the six-run inning they had the very next inning with three runs of our own. There were a lot of good things offensively
tonight".
Toronto will be looking to put the series away from the Texans when they go up against the team on April 29, 2011.
