Toronto Blue Jays may acquire Boston Red Sox David Ortiz – MLB News
As the baseball circle was rich with the sounds of moves that may happen just after the World Series within the Boston Red Sox, management modified the policy to prohibit the players from making lateral moves, but the manager Alex Anthopoulos will have to
deal with another rumour.
After David Ortiz announced his wish to join the New York Yankees and then took it back on Thursday, the Red Sox received disturbing news, explaining that the Toronto Blue Jays might show interest in hiring Ortiz. The left-handed hitter, who will turn into
a free agent just after five days of the World Series, has received offers from the Blue Jays, according to a news source.
Although Ortiz had cleared his chance to be a part of the Yankees, the Bronx Bombers might think of him as Robison Cano’s agent had contacted Brian Cashman to overview his option for 2012 and 2013. Sources revealed on Thursday night, another American League
East Club, the Blue Jays have shown interest in the designated hitter.
According to a source in Major League, the Boston Red Sox will try to avoid free agency option but the Blue Jays “will not rule out” making a run at him.
David, known as Big Papi, ruled out the rumours of his wish to join the Yankees, by saying that he would like to remain his current club. Experts believe it as an old tactic to divert the attention of the people, as history has shown many players expressing
loyalty for the club but later took the big free-agent money and ran away.
Ortiz, coming off a an excellent 2011 season, in which he had a .309 batting average, highest since 2007, will be one of the many factors that the Blue Jays might have considered. As Ortiz was the captain of the American League in the Home Run Derby, he
by any means, made sure that Jose Bautista gets a full chance. His leniency towards the Blue Jays and prospected right-left combination with Bautista will also be one of the factors.
Bautista hammered 44 homers this season and Ortiz was on 29 with 96 runs. The combination of both may provide the big powerhouse threat in the middle to the Blue Jays.
“I wanted to see Bautista hitting,” Ortiz said after naming the Jays right fielder to the 2011 Derby. “I wanted everybody to know what he's all about.”
However, looking at the statement that the Red Sox newly appointed general manager Ben Cherington made in his introductory news conference, the possibility of retaining Ortiz is being seen.
"But there's got to be a deal that makes sense to him and to us," Cherignton said in conference.
As most of the clubs are settled at the designated hitter position and will not be ready to offer him increasing prices, Ortiz will reconsider his free agency option before availing it.
