Toronto Blue Jays outclass Minnesota Twins 6-2 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays looked in commanding form as they outclassed Minnesota Twins 6-2 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday, May 10 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Eric Thames, Josh Willingham, Kelly Johnson, Brett Lawrie and others made valuable contributions to help their team establish complete control over the contest.
"He knows he's got a good defense behind him, and they're making all the plays," said Henderson Alvarez's interpreter, Luis Rivera after his 17 innings scoreless streak was snapped in the third.
"Really, he kept control of the game. He might not have been as sharp as his last time out, but just a solid effort by him overall," manager John Farrell said.
"He trusts his infielders, trusts the defense, and we're able to keep the game crisp when he's on the mound," Farrell said.
"It's not one's person's fault. It's a team effort, and we've got to get better at our jobs," Jason Marquis said.
The Blue Jays dominated their opponents in almost all aspects of the game. After making an aggressive start to the contest, they did not allow the Twins to settle down. Taking complete advantage of the Twins’ unforced errors, Toronto’s batters put up a decent score on the board and the defence was also quite brilliant as they leaked just two runs.
Toronto was the most successful team of the Spring Training Session and John Farrell and company were looking to continue their excellent run during the regular season as well. However, they have not been able to give results on regular basis so far.
Although the Blue Jays improved their record to 18-14 with their win against the Twins, they still need to work on some weak areas of their game play. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can sweep the Twins to gain invaluable self belief and confidence.
The Twins, on the other hand, were sent to their 23rd loss of the season and they have managed to win just eight games. They will be looking to put up a better fight in the second game to salvage some pride.
