Toronto Blue Jays outclass New York Yankees 8-4 – MLB News
Toronto Blue Jays hammered the New York Yankees 8-4 at Rogers Centre in Toronto Ontario on Sunday, April 21 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
After suffering two embarrassing defeats at the hands of Yankee in first two games of the series, the Blue Jays finally managed to execute their game plan to perfection on Sunday evening. Regrouping and fighting back, the Blue Jays outplayed their American
League rivals in almost all aspects of the game to end avoid a humiliating series sweep in front of their home crowd. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can continue the good work in their next series to improve their win loss record.
"I still lack command, I'm not throwing strikes and that kind of makes me mad," Yankees’ starter Ivan Nova said. "I know I can do better than this and I'm not happy."
"I don't think he really got a feel for any pitch consistently," catcher Chris Stewart said. "One hitter it would be there, the next hitter it wouldn't."
"The first four hits he gives up, only one of them is centered," Girardi said in a post game interview. "I thought he threw the ball OK, it was just the long counts that got him."
Yankees, on the other hand, will be slightly disappointed with the outcome of the game. With their 2-0 series lead, they had an excellent chance to grab record another series sweep but that did not turn out to be the case, Joe Girardi and company performed
brilliantly in 2012 to claim the American League East Division title. Surely they will be looking to avenge their defeat against the Tigers in this year’s playoffs.
For the Blue Jays, starter Josh Johnson had a decent time on the mound as he allowed four hits in five plus innings. Relief pitcher Brett Cecil grabbed his first win of the season after he pitched a scoreless inning to help his side claim a crucial lead.
Edwin Encarnacion grounded into fielder’s choice to second in the first inning and JP Arencibia homered to centre in the seventh to post a decent total on the board for Toronto.
