Toronto Blue Jays overcome Baltimore Orioles 6-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays showed great determination and fighting abilities to overcome the mighty Baltimore Orioles 6-4 on Wednesday, September 5 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Blue Jays executed their game plan to perfection in the finale to avoid a humiliating series sweep in front of their home crowd. The pitching rotation in particular should be given a lot of credit for creating all sorts of problems for the inform Orioles
batting line-up.
Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow produced a magical performance as he gave up just three hits and two runs in six solid innings to keep Baltimore on the defensive. Relief pitcher Steve Delabar picked up the win after he gave up just a hit in the scoreless
seventh.
"Some people saw a replay and said it was fair, the guy that mattered said it was foul," Showalter said.
"Wieters came up to me and said, 'Hey, they might bunt. You never know, they might squeeze right here, so let's make good pitches,'" said Orioles’ starter Miguel Gonzalez in a post game interview. "I thought I threw a good pitch, it was a slider and he got
a piece of it and bunted well."
"It was just good execution," Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said with disappointment on his face. "(They) execute it right, there's not a whole lot you can do."
Darren Oliver and Casey Janssen combined to give just one run in two solid innings to hold off the Orioles.
After Orioles took an early 2-0 lead, Kelly Johnson doubled to deep right centre in the second inning to put Blue Jays on the board. Rajai Davis played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash with a solo home-run to left in the third inning. With
momentum on their side, the Blue Jays continued to put pressure on their opponents.
Davis singled to centre in the seventh to extend Blue Jays’ lead to 6-2 and although Mark Reynolds hit a home-run for Baltimore in the ninth, Toronto held on to the lead comfortably to secure the victory.
The Blue Jays will definitely be happy with their performance as they managed to contain the Orioles and take a decent victory.
