Toronto Blue Jays overcome Baltimore Orioles 7-6 – MLB news
Toronto Blue Jays continued to show signs of improvement as they edged past the inform Baltimore Orioles 7-6 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Friday, June 21 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular
season.
It was an important win for the Blue Jays who have been looking to find some consistency in their results since the start of the season.
With their win against the Orioles at Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays improved their win percentage to 0.50 and it will be interesting to see if they can keep up the good work to have any chance of making it to the playoffs this season.
Orioles, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game that they could have easily won with some more luck on their side. However, despite their loss, Buck Showalter and company are placed second on the American League East
Division standings table and it will not be wrong to say that they have a very realistic chance of winning their first AL East pennant in almost two decades.
“The legend grows, the Kawasaki legend grows, and rightfully so,” Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey said.
“He's been doing that all year,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. “He's done a tremendous job for us.”
“Nobody has said that Kawasaki was going down,” Gibbons said. “People might assume that but we don't know what's going to happen, to be honest. We've definitely come back to life, that's for sure. We're riding a nice high right now.”
Blue Jays’ starter RA Dickey had an ordinary time on the mound as he allowed seven hits and six runs in just six innings.
However, closer Casey Janssen showed nerves of steel under pressure as he pitched the perfect ninth to help his side prevail in a thrilling encounter. Orioles’ starter Jason Hammel worked up six solid innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven
batters. Hammel was unfortunate to end up on the losing despite putting up a strong show.
