Toronto Blue Jays overcome Minnesota Twins 4-3 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays overcame the Minnesota Twins 4-3 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, October 2 in second game of their three match series.
Credit should be given to the Twins for putting up a solid fight in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. Blue Jays executed their game plan to perfection on Tuesday to take an impassable 2-0 series lead.
Although John Farrell and company are out of the playoffs race, they will be looking to end the season on a positive note to give their fans something to cheer about. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can continue their good work in the finale
to complete a deserving series sweep.
Starting pitcher Chad Jenkins played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash, giving up just two runs on five hits in five solids innings to set up an impressive win for his team.
"A little disappointing, yeah, but I'll go out there and try to get some hits tomorrow," he said.
"There were parts of this year where I honestly wasn't sure whether I was going to get here," Jenkins said. "Fortunately the Blue Jays gave me a chance and now I'm just trying to run with it."
"Nice looking whip on the ball," Gardenhire said. "Our hitters talked about some late jump. You can see the ball OK off him but with that late jump, we didn't really square him up too many times."
Relief pitcher Aaron Loup, Steve Delabar, Darren Oliver and Casey Janssen combined to give just one run in four solid innings as the Blue Jays held on to clinch a narrow win.
With momentum on their side, the Blue Jays will be certainly the favourites to sweep the Twins. It will be interesting to see if the Twins can get things back on track in the finale to avoid another embarrassing series sweep.
Rajai Davis singled to centre in the third inning to put Blue Jays on the board. Kelly Johnson homered to right centre and Yunel Escobar singled to left in the fifth to help their side take an impassable 4-0 lead.
