Toronto Blue Jays overpower Boston Red Sox 9-6 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays put up a great power show on Monday, June 25 as they beat Boston Red Sox 9-6 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Cody Rasmus, once again, played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he homered to right in the first inning and third baseman Brett Lawrie scored to put the Blue Jays 2-0 ahead. Edwin Encarnacion doubled to deep centre and Rajai Davis had
an RBI groundout to cap a four run first inning.
J.P. Arencibia also had a great time on the plate as he homered to left in the sixth to break the tie and Jose Bautista hit his 24th home run of the season to seal an emphatic win for his team. David Ortiz homered twice for the Red Sox but the
effort did not prove to be enough.
"The top of our order has been swinging good of late," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "The way Jose, Edwin (Encarnacion) and Rasmus have been going. ... They're swinging the bats well for us."
"I can't tell you what to attribute it to," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said of Ortiz. "His batting practice every day is stellar, his games have been consistently terrific. The only time he got outside of himself was a couple of days ago. Then he got
the off day (Sunday) and he came back with a vengeance tonight."
With their win on Monday afternoon, John Farrell and company moved three games past the .500 win percentage mark. Right now, the Blue Jays are placed fourth on the American League East Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can sweep
the Red Sox in this series to build up on some much needed confidence.
Boston, on the other hand, will be eager to put things back on the right track in the next game. With seven wins in their last ten games, Bobby Valentine and his men have improved their game play considerably over the last couple of weeks.
