Toronto Blue Jays overpower Miami Marlins 7-1 at Marlins Park – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays overpowered Miami Marlins 7-1 at Marlins Park in Miami, FL on Sunday, June 23 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
With score tied at 1-1 in the seventh inning, it could have been anyone’s game but the Marlins gave their rivals one too many opportunities in the ninth inning. Edwin Encarnacion homered to left against Steve Cishek and Colby Rasmus hit a wonderful grand
slam to lift the Blue Jays to their sixth win in last eight games.
"Obviously, Eddie's swing to lead off the ninth gave us a margin of one," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said in a post game interview. "But a couple of walks, a hit batter and obviously Colby's grand slam was the big blow.
"It was huge," Rasmus said. "He's been unbelievable, but there's no `I' in team, it takes everybody. He got a good pitch over the plate and lined it over the fence. That helped us, for sure."
"The biggest inning probably is Frasor's inning, coming in with nobody out, the go-ahead run on second base, and he goes 1-2-3," Farrell said.
John Farrell and company absolutely dominated the Marlins in the opening game to devastate their opponents. The offence made the most of available opportunities to put 12 runs on the board and the bullpen pitched with great control and accuracy to lead the
Blue Jays to an impressive victory.
The Blue Jays continued their domination on Sunday afternoon, beating the Marlins in almost all departments of the game. With their win, Toronto has now improved their record to 37-34 but they still remain at the bottom of American League East Division standings
table.
Miami, on the other hand, took their sixth straight loss on Sunday and it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back from such a humiliating defeat. Manager Ozzie Guillen was very disappointed after seeing his offence wasting another strong start
by Josh Johnson who allowed just one run and two hits in seven innings to keep his side in the game.
