Toronto Blue Jays pushing hard to acquire Yu Darvish -MLB Update
Ever since Yu Darvish announced his comeback into Major League Baseball (MLB), the Toronto Blue Jays were seen to be the frontrunners in the race to acquire one of the most sought after players in the 2011 MLB offseason this time around, which may even set
new record in respects to posting a bid for exclusive negotiating rights.
With less than a day to go till the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters are expected to be announcing the winner of the bid to get the negotiating rights of the player, it has been learned that Toronto is doing everything in its power to get its hands on Darvish,
especially now that the process has entered its final stages.
Japanese baseball expert, Robert Whiting, also wrote about how Darvish would be a befitting addition on the Toronto roster in all aspects.
"Darvish pitched in a dome in Sapporo, in a cold climate, so he should feel right at home in Toronto," Whiting wrote. "The dome in Sapporo was huge -- a pitchers' park with very large foul areas -- so it was advantageous for him. It was one of the reasons
that he had such a low ERA in NPB [Nippon Professional Baseball]. Toronto's dome will be a much better for Darvish than, say, Texas or Baltimore, which are hitters' parks and which are uncomfortably hot in the summer."
The highest bid recorded in MLB history for a Japanese player was the $51.1 million bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006 by the Boston Red Sox and according to SI.com, the highest bid for Darvish exceeds that amount.
In latest reports, Darvish’s agent, Don Nomura, made an announcement on Monday morning via social networking website Twitter that the team would make the announcement on Tuesday morning in Japan, which would be around some time before midnight in the U.S.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the situation plays out in the upcoming hours and what the ultimate decision of the Ham Fighters will be concerning the potential future team of Japanese sensation, Yu Darvish, and his entry in the national baseball
league in the United States.
