Toronto Blue Jays secure an emphatic 6-3 win over Houston Astros – MLB Spring Training
Toronto Blue Jays secured an emphatic 6-3 win over Houston Astros at the Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida on March 15 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions. Jordan Schafer made a valuable
contribution for Houston as he scored twice for his team on Thursday.
"There's a lot of experience there. They helped me understand that you don't just go up there and hack away. There's a lot more to it than that," Jordan said. "You're setting the tone, you're taking pitches. Leading off is not so much about yourself. It's
letting the guys behind you see pitches, working pitchers, giving your pitcher a break when he grounds out."
Kyle Drabek and Dustin McGowan were quite outstanding, each tossing three solid innings to help the Jays put pressure on their opponents. Drabek will be especially very satisfied with the way he conducted himself on the field.
The starter has been facing arm and knee problems for the last three years and he was hoping to grab a spot on pitching rotation. Allowing just one unearned in his second spring start, he impressed his skipper big time.
"It's even more comforting when he's throwing 92 to 95 (mph) with the sink that he's shown," Farrell said. "He's passing every plateau, and that constant buildup and endurance is where he's at."
The Jays have emerged as one of the strongest teams in American League East Division. Jays’ 11-2 win-loss record this spring suggests that they are executing their strategies to perfection. The Jays have not won the East Division title since 1993. However,
considering the kind of start they have made to their Spring Training campaign, Manager John Farrell and General Manager Alex Anthopoulos will have their eyes set on the World Series title.
It will be interesting to see if the Jays can capitalise on the momentum they have gained to make it to the post season. Houston Astros, on the other hand, will be pretty upset with the outcome of the game. They had several chances to take the driving seat
but they didn’t take them and ultimately paid the price.
