Toronto Blue Jays shut out Atlanta Braves 3-0 – MLB news
Toronto Blue Jays showed just what they are capable of as they secured a comfortable 3-0 win against the red hot Atlanta Braves at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia in the opening game of their two match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Blue Jays displayed some top quality baseball skills in a game that turned out to be completely one sided. Credit should be given to the pitching rotation for executing the game plan to perfection. Starting pitcher Esmil Rogers led from the front as he allowed
just three hits in three plus scoreless innings while striking out four batters. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he laid the foundations of an impressive win for his team.
“You tip your hat to those guys,” manager John Gibbons said. “They all stepped up, did a great job. Going in, you really don't know what you're going to get out of Rogers, how many innings. And then Perez comes in, shuts them down, then Wagner, against a
really good-hitting team.”
“I've been hit by a lot of balls in my life. That's one of the harder ones I've felt,” Medlen said in a post game interview. “I knew right away (that he'd have to leave the game), but I at least wanted get through the inning.”
Relief pitcher Juan Perez grabbed his first win of the season as he pitched two plus scoreless and perfect innings. Perez will be looking to continue the good work on his next appearance. Closer Casey Janssen saved his 11th game of the year after he pitched
the perfect ninth. For the Braves, starter Kris Medlen took his sixth loss of the year after he gave up four hits and three runs in just two innings.
J.P. Arencibia provided the Blue Jays with a perfect start as he grounded into fielder’s choice to first in the first innings to put his side on the board. Melky Cabrera also made his presence felt as he earned an RBI single to left to extend Blue Jays lead
to 3-0, which lasted till the end of the contest.
