Toronto Blue Jays shutout Baltimore Orioles 4-0 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays showed great composure and mental strength as they shut-out the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Tuesday, September 25 in third game of their three match series.
Orioles disappointed the fans big time on Monday afternoon as they suffered their second straight loss against the Blue Jays. Manager Buck Showalter also looked extremely frustrated at the end of the contest.
Orioles needed to win this game to keep their American League East title hopes alive but that did not turn out to be the case as Blue Jays played out of their skins to take a 2-1 series lead.
Baltimore’ starting pitcher Joe Saunders had a horrible time on the mound as he gave up 11 hits and four runs in just over six innings to take his third loss of the season. Relief pitchers Luis Ayala and Dylan Bundy combined to toss up two plus scoreless
innings but the Orioles were unable to score enough runs on Monday.
"Trying to get more runs on our scoreboard," Jones said.
For the Blue Jays, starter Aaron Laffey produced a match winning performance as he allowed just five hits in five shut-out innings, laying the foundations of an impressive victory. Relief pitchers Steve Delabar, Brett Cecil, Brandon Lyon, Darren Oliver and
Casey Janssen kept pressure on Baltimore, tossing up 3.1 scoreless innings.
"Honestly, he's running on fumes. His stuff is not as sharp and crisp, but you can't take anything away from what he did tonight. He's gone out there on really some guile tonight," Toronto manager John Farrell said of Laffey.
"You're always going to get everyone's best shot and when we had been struggling and we'd go into certain venues where there's a good emotion in the ballpark, it feeds the other team as well as us," Showalter said.
First baseman Yan Gomes put Blue Jays on the board as he singled to left in the first inning. Colby Rasmus earned an RBI single to right centre and Edwin Encarnacion singled to right in the seventh to help Blue Jays secure a deserving victory.
