Toronto Blue Jays shutout San Francisco Giants 4-0 – MLB News
Toronto Blue Jays had a great time on the field as they shutout the 2012 World Series Winners San Francisco Giants 4-0 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California on Wednesday, June 5 in the finale of their two match series of the
2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win on Wednesday evening, the Blue Jays also managed to avoid another embarrassing series sweep. Giants secured a narrow 2-1 win in the opener and with momentum on their side, they had great chance to wrap up another
series win but that did not turn out to be the case.
Blue Jays played out of their skin to upset the in-form Giants and it will be interesting to see if they can continue the good work to have any chance of making it to the playoffs. Starting pitcher, R.A. Dickey, did just what he
is capable of, as he allowed just two hits in eight-plus solid innings to lay the foundations of an impressive win for his team.
Striking out batters at crucial moments, Dickey grabbed his fifth win of the season. Relief pitcher, Casey Janssen, also had a great time on the mound as he tossed up the perfect ninth to save his 12th game of the year.
"He was just about perfect today," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He had it all going on. He was in the strike zone. Everything was really dancing today. ..."
"I was changing speeds a lot today, which was good," Dickey said. "I was able to throw a 63, 64 miles per hour one for a strike and I was able to throw a 79 miles per hour one for a strike. As I've gotten healthier, I felt like
I've been able to have the latitude to be able to do that. Before it was just trying to muster everything I could to survive an outing."
Dickey doubled to left in the fifth inning to break the deadlock and opened the scoring for the Blue Jays. Jose Bautista also made his presence felt with an RBI single to left in the fifth. Second baseman Mark DeRosa extended the
lead to 4-0 with a single to centre.
