Toronto Blue Jays sign free-agent Melky Cabrera to a two-year contract – MLB Update
Some say, it is “change” that will come to Toronto next season.
With a recent blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins which provided the Toronto Blue Jays with some of the best talent in the entire Major League, reports are now coming in the media that free agent left fielder Melky Cabrera has also signed a two-year contract with them.
“Our top guys liked him a lot. Mind you, we had dissenting voices in the room, too, He’s a guy with a chance to rebound. You figure he’s going to be clean because he’s going to be tested more often than a normal guy. The Jays are taking some risk, but it’s a low gamble,” said one executive.
Another executive said, “When we discussed him, we thought that he was no longer the guy he was in Atlanta. He didn’t come into camp in shape and was buried, And he’s not the same young kid he was when he broke in with the Yankees at 21.”
According to experts, the Blue Jays are playing their cards intelligently as they already acquired start starter Mark Buehrle and shortstop Jose Reyes from the Marlins.
Now with the inclusion of Cabrera in the roster, the Blue Jays will be stronger than ever in their recent past baseball history.
These three players will be a decisive part of the Blue Jays next season. All have decent playing averages and know the complexities of the game.
Especially Cabrera, who had certainly a roller coaster season, is currently considered one of the best players in Major League Baseball.
He played a significant role in San Francisco Giants’ in the past season. He played well early in the 2012 Major League season and gave enough performance to the Giants’ who later with the same push managed to qualify for the post season and later won the World Series title against the Detroit Tigers.
Though he was not an active part of the roster later in the playoffs and World Series due to a 50-game ban by the Major League Baseball authorities for his high testosterone level in his blood, but he still managed to make a strong impact for his season long contribution for the Giants.
