Toronto Blue Jays snatch 7-4 win over Cleveland Indians – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays crushed Cleveland Indians 7-4 at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday, April 5 in their opening game of the 2012 Major League Baseball Regular season.
J.P. Arencibia put up a solid show for the Blue Jays as he hit a crucial three home run in the sixteenth inning and the Blue Jays rallied past the Indians to win the longest opening day game of MLB history. Arencibia seemed to be having a rough outing until he connected off Indians’ reliever Jairo Asencio. The catcher wasn’t thrilled at standing behind the plate for sixteen innings.
"If you're going to break records, you might as well do it on opening day," said Indians All-Star closer Chris Perez. "No position player wants to be out there for 16 innings on opening day. I feel terrible. Everybody did their job today except me."
"I guess it's pretty cool now," said Arencibia. "I'm glad to be on the winning end."
"If tonight is any kind of insight into this season, strap in," Blue Jays’ Manager John Farrell said. "We're in for a long ride."
Toronto were trailing 4-1 in the ninth inning but they showed great determination and fighting spirit to tie the score, thanks to Chris Perez who allowed them to come back.
Blue Jays were one of the dominant forces during the Spring Training Session. Although the Blue Jays haven’t won the World Series title since 1993, their spring performances shows the comfort level they are feeling right now. The Blue Jays outplayed the likes of Detroit Tigers in the last quarter of the spring and it will be interesting to see if they can take their impressive form into the regular season.
Indians, on the other hand, made too many unforced errors during the contest, for which they paid the ultimate price. Indians’ pitchers leaked runs at critical stages of the game and the Blue Jays took complete advantage to register their first win of the season. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Blue Jays are looking determined to have a special season.
